Out Of The Cage: Nike x Stüssy

Anticipation for this drop has peaked this week across social media. Set to be one of their biggest collaborations in a very long time, Nike has teamed up once again with Stüssy to release a unique take on the Nike Spiridon Caged 2 sneaker, along with a line of apparel.

The Nike x Stüssy relationship beginning in 2000 has produced a continuous stream of sneakers that experiment with design, fabric and colours to provide new and interesting editions to the sneaker world. Previous sneaker releases from these two brands remain highly sought after pieces that hold and increase their value years on from their original release. We've absolutely no doubt these will keep to this theme.

The shoe released in two colourways initially on March 27th, along with a second global release on April 3rd. As seen on Travis Scott, the hyped sneaker comes in cream canvas with black detailing for the ‘fossil’ colourway, as well as ‘pure platinum’, a metallic silver and black version. The ‘fossil’ sneaker is made up of varied canvas textures that form layers on the shoe, some resembling mesh and others hessian fabric. It features black canvas detailing of the Nike swooshes on the sides, and a Stüssy canvas patch on the back heel. The black colourway delivers the sneaker in it’s more sophisticated form, sporting silver metallic detailing that frames the shoes, as well as the Nike logo and heel of the sneaker in matte black leather. Both shoes feature the classic Spiridon caged sole in colours complimentary to the colourway. Releasing the shoe in these colours only increased their popularity as they’re super versatile and easy to pair with most outfits.

This 2020 Nike x Stüssy collaboration also kindly presented us with the whole fit. The collection offers a branded matching grey sweater and sweatpants, black tote bag, long-sleeved top with swoosh jacquard neck rib and embroidered Stüssy branding on the left sleeve. Retailing at just £143, the Nike x Stüssy Zoom Spiridon’s CG 2 sneakers sold out very quickly. That being said, so did the rest of the collection. If you didn’t get the chance to cop the collection upon its release, you could use some of the money you may have saved during isolation to get some on resale.
